Ofsted Inspections Explained for Out of School Clubs
Parents often ask us what Ofsted inspections mean for out-of-school clubs and wraparound care — and how they differ from school or nursery inspections.

It gives a helpful overview of how inspections work, but it’s important to understand how this applies specifically to Ofsted registered out of school clubs like Playtime Paradise Wraparound.
How Ofsted Inspects Our Out of School Club
Playtime Paradise Wraparound is an Ofsted registered out of school club on:
- the Childcare Register, and
- the Early Years Register
This means we are inspected for all the things that matter most to families, including:
- Safeguarding and child protection
- Staff suitability, vetting and training
- Health, safety and welfare
- Supervision, ratios and risk assessment
- Children’s wellbeing and behaviour support
These areas are fully inspected and are central to any Ofsted inspection of an out of school club.
Why Out of School Clubs Are Exempt from Learning & Development Judgements
As a wraparound and out of school club, we are exempt from the EYFS Learning and Development requirements.
That means:
- We do not follow a formal curriculum
- We do not assess children against early learning goals
- We do not replicate nursery or classroom learning
This exemption exists because out of school care serves a different purpose.
Play Based, Child Led Care Is the Point
After a full school day, children need time to relax, reset and reconnect with play.

Even without Learning & Development grading, Ofsted expects to see that:
- Children are happy, settled and engaged
- Staff-child relationships are warm and respectful
- Play opportunities are inclusive and age appropriate
- Behaviour is supported positively
- Children’s voices and choices matter
In other words, inspectors are looking for high quality wraparound care, not classroom teaching.
